Steve Stanicek

Coach Stanicek is beginning his 18th year as a Head Varsity Baseball Coach. He has coached at Homewood- Flossmoor, Lockport, and currently in his 7th year at Glenbrook South High School.  Steve has compiled a 392-178 record, 14 conference titles, 12 regional titles and two summer regional titles. Steve has been named area coach of the year 5 times (97, 99, 07, 14, 19). Steve was an assistant baseball coach for 6 years and was part of the Jim Hall led staff that won the state championship in 2005. 


A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Coach Stanicek was a two-time Big 8 selection and first team All-American in 1982. Later that year he became a first round selection (11th overall pick) of the San Francisco Giants. Steve played 9 years of professional baseball with the Giants, Brewers, and the Phillies.


Steve has been an assistant football coach for over 25 years and has been part of three state football championships.


He currently serves as Instructional Supervisor for PE, Driver Ed, and Health at Glenbrook South High School. 


Coach Stanicek’s family includes his wife Sheila, daughters Ashley and Samantha, son-in-law Tyler Hill and Granddaughter’s Ryann and Camryn Hill.
