Steve Stanicek

Coach Stanicek is beginning his 21st year as a Head Varsity Baseball Coach. He has coached at Homewood- Flossmoor, Lockport, and is currently in his 10th year at Glenbrook South High School.  Steve was inducted into the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2019.  Steve has compiled a 436-201-1 record, 15 conference titles, 14 regional Titles, 1 Sectional title, and two summer regional titles in his career. Steve has been named area coach of the year 5 times (97, 99, 07, 14, 19). 

 

A graduate of the University of Nebraska, Coach Stanicek was a two-time Big 8 selection and first-team All-American in 1982. Later that year he became a first-round selection (11th overall pick) of the San Francisco Giants. Steve played 9 years of professional baseball with the Giants, Brewers, and the Phillies.

 

Steve has been an assistant football coach for over 25 years and has been part of three state football championships.

 

He currently serves as Instructional Supervisor for PE, Driver Ed, and Health at Glenbrook South High School. 

 

Coach Stanicek’s family includes his wife Sheila, daughters Ashley and Samantha, son-in-laws Tyler Hill, and Tim Grogan and Granddaughter’s Ryann and Camryn Hill.
